Do you take the time to eat a nutritious breakfast, or consciously skip it as you rush out the door? What measurements or supplementation, if any, do you perform or take each morning? In the Gottfried…

The changes in our body as we age are actually mea The changes in our body as we age are actually measurable in your blood by way of a test for telomere length. You have biological timekeepers in your cells called telomeres. A telomere is a collection of DNA at the end of your chromosome that acts like a knot at the end of a thread. A telomere signals to the enzymes duplicating your DNA that they’re almost at the end of the strand and it’s time to stop, just as a knot tells you to stop pulling a piece of thread with a needle. For nearly all normal cells, each time a cell divides, its telomeres get shorter. At a certain point, the cell dies because the telomeres are gone and the ends of the chromosomes are no longer protected.

It’s normal to lose telomere length as you age, but only at a certain, healthy rate. Some people lose length on their telomeres faster than average. Short telomeres put you at a greater risk not just for wrinkles but also for heart disease, cancer, and early death. Overall, people with short telomeres have an up to 300 percent higher risk of cancer of the pancreas, bone, bladder, prostate, lung, kidney, and neck. Those who delight in quantifying biological age can get their telomeres tested at Spectracell.com (no affiliation).

My own wake-up call came when I tested my telomeres at age forty-five. I had the telomeres of a sixty-five-year-old woman. I realized no amount of pills or injections could save me; I needed to repair my body and my telomeres the old-fashioned way with lifestyle interventions.

Studies of telomeres show that moderate levels of activity seem to protect telomere length best (Du, 2012).

Yoga is associated with longer telomeres, higher levels of nerve- growth factor, improved antioxidant status (and thus better defense against oxidative stress), reduced inflammatory gene expression, and increased healthspan (Krishna, 2015).

Develop ways to help you clear stress better as stress shortens telomeres. High levels of glucocorticoids shorten your telomeres, which may arrest some cells into the zombie-like state of senescence (where the cell is neither alive nor dead) and release chemical messengers that promote inflammation.

What are you doing to protect your telomeres?

Looking to this great man for hope and inspiration Looking to this great man for hope and inspiration at a difficult time in our country.

Divine discontent.

He was assassinated on April 4, 1968. At that time, I was 13 months old. He was only 39. Today he would be 92 if he wasn’t murdered.

Let’s honor his legacy of antiracism today with deliberate action + healing.

Around 90 percent of the signs of aging and diseas Around 90 percent of the signs of aging and disease are caused by lifestyle (and the environment created by your lifestyle), not genes. The neighborhood of your body—how you live and the world you create, internally and externally—is more important than your DNA when it comes to how you look and feel now and for the next twenty-five to fifty years. ⠀
⠀
Let’s clean up your neighborhood.⠀

When you make healthy choices, you literally reverse the degenerative aging process and add years to your life - expanding your health span, so you spend years, or even decades more, feeling fantastic.⠀
⠀
In my book YOUNGER #linkinbio, I present the most scientifically proven ways to reprogram genes with specific lifestyle and mind-set changes.⠀
⠀
I discovered what helps people not just look young but also feel young, and, even more exciting, I learned how DNA plays a part in overall aging and what we can do to alter the way our DNA is expressed.⠀
⠀
Who wants to influence their genes for the better? Over the course of the next few posts, I am going to share my best tips for how you can overcome and transform your genetic history and tendencies, particularly when it comes to aging. Drop your questions below ⬇️⬇️
Migraines affect one in seven American adults, yet Migraines affect one in seven American adults, yet effective treatment has been elusive. In my practice of precision medicine, we use a strict elimination/provocation diet, supplements, peptides, Botox, and other pharmaceuticals that have been shown to reduce migraines by more than half.

I’ll be posting a few of the most proven treatments of migraine. One of my favorites is exogenous ketones. Ketone therapy is a new and promising area of research that leverages the neuroprotective effects of ketogenesis in neurological conditions, including migraines and epilepsy.

Here’s the big idea: A ketogenic diet is a high-fat, moderate protein, low-carbohydrate food plan. Ketone bodies — including β-hydroxybutyrate (bHB), acetoacetate and acetone — are made by the liver to compensate for reduced glucose availability from eating low carb. Since the 1930s, the ketogenic diet has been used primarily to reduce seizures in epilepsy as well as for weight or fat loss.

Women, especially during reproductive years and in perimenopause, are affected at twice the rates of men, with a prevalence of 20% in women versus 9% in men. I grew up with a mother who had menstrual migraines and would disappear to her bedroom for hours to days.

Do you suffer with migraines? What has worked for you? Have you tried exogenous ketones?

How we dance with stress and recover — how we ea How we dance with stress and recover — how we eat, move, think, soothe, sleep, and supplement — are key to a long healthspan, the period of time where you feel fantastic and are free of disease. There is so much within our control when it comes to robust health. Only 10% of disease is genetic. 90% is epigenetics (how your genes react and talk with the environment they are in), which means YOU have the ability to control how you age.⠀
