Red Velvet Shake: Good for your heart and your brain

Brain Body Diet Recipe| Beets | Sara Gottfried MD

This healthy shake is as luxurious as it sounds. It is the ultimate self-care in a glass. Let’s start with the beets. Beetroot is a major source of betalains, powerful phytonutrients that counter inflammation, protect the liver, and have antioxidant activity. Beets are one of the true superfoods. As are avocados. We all know by now how healthy avocados are. But in case you weren’t aware of all of their health benefits, here is a quick summary:

  • They are a source of healthy fat that stabilizes blood sugar.
  • Avocados are high in omega-3s and play a vital role in reducing neuroinflammation and anxiety, and also makes them good for your heart.
  • And last but not least, this miracle food has also been shown to raise dopamine, the feel-good hormone in your brain. Yes, avocados make you happy.

Just like avocado, beets also raise dopamine levels in your brain, which makes my Red Velvet Shake a nutritious mood-booster.
