It consists of 3 stages: the Pre-Cleanse, Main Detox and Re-Entry.
During the 15-day Pre-Cleanse, you’ll remove red meat, alcohol, sugar, caffeine, gluten and dairy from your diet in 72-hour stages to re-set your metabolic hormone receptors (for maximum health benefits and weight loss), and prepare your body for a smooth detox with minimal side-effects.
You’ll continue to avoid these six metabolic hormone blockers during the 6-day Main Detox. Then, in the 9-day Re-Entry you’ll reintroduce red meat, alcohol, sugar, caffeine, gluten and dairy in stages to discover which ones cause an autoimmune/allergic reaction – and use this information to help you craft a “maintenance” plan for how you want to eat and supplement beyond the detox.

Is Dr. Sara’s Detox Challenge just for women?
Absolutely not! This detox works equally well for men and women. The only difference for men vs. women is that male participants may find that they need to eat an additional meal or drink an additional shake each day in order to feel satisfied. Dr. Sara will provide information on how to modify the detox for the male participants as needed.
Is this a juice cleanse?
No. This detox focuses on eliminating foods that are toxic to the body and replacing them with hormone-balancing, metabolism-boosting foods. During the 15 day Pre-Cleanse, you will eat 2 healthy meals and drink 1 shake per day. During the 6-day Main Detox, you will eat 1 healthy meal and drink 2 shakes per day. During the 9-day Re-Entry, you will eat 1-2 healthy meals and drink 1-2 shakes per day (depending on your preference and weight loss goals).
For maximum weight loss benefits, we recommend keeping additional snacks to a minimum. However, this detox is NOT about starving yourself! If your energy is low between meals/shakes, then we recommend eating a small snack from your list of approved foods.
Will I have enough energy to go to work?
Definitely! Most people actually find that they sleep better and have MORE energy during this detox.
When you eliminate the main foods that cause autoimmune reactions and hormone imbalance (red meat, alcohol, sugar, caffeine, gluten and dairy) from your diet, your body will process the rest of your food more easily – and convert more of that food into clean, lasting energy. In addition, replacing some meals with shakes means less energy exerted for digestion (which means MORE energy that you can use for whatever you want to do each day!).
Do I need to take any supplements while I’m detoxing?
Yes! At a minimum, you will need to purchase a non-dairy/non-whey protein powder (at least 36 servings’ worth – or more if you’re a man / if you anticipate needing additional shakes) and a water-soluble fiber blend (at least 30 servings’ worth).
For a deeper cleanse, Dr. Sara also recommends taking detox supplements (enough for 30 days).

What if I can’t stick to the eating plan 100%?
In order to see the maximum hormone balance and weight loss results, we highly recommend sticking to the food plan and detox schedule. The best way to do this is to PLAN AHEAD and keep plenty of healthy foods and snacks on hand for “emergencies.”
That being said, just do the best you can. If you get off-track, you can always jump right back on again! There’s no such thing as “failing” the detox – and most participants are pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to stick with the plan once you get started.
I’m pregnant/breastfeeding/trying to get pregnant. Is it still safe for me to participate?
Generally Dr. Sara’s Detox Challenge is safe for everyone. However, Dr. Sara cannot give you medical advice outside of a doctor-patient relationship. For both pregnant and lactating women, your best option is to discuss with your clinician and to avoid the supplements unless approved him or her. Most supplements do not have proven safety in pregnancy and lactation. The exceptions are magnesium and some of the B vitamins, but it’s better to err of the side of caution and make the decision about supplements with your clinician.
I want to do this, but I have a big trip/event during the detox dates! Should I just wait for the next detox to join?
Most people find that they can stick with the detox, even during big trips or events. The main thing you’ll need is access to a blender and healthy foods (from your approved foods list). As long as you have that, you can do Dr. Sara’s Detox Challenge pretty much anywhere, anytime!
If you worry that your event/trip will interfere with your detox, you can also choose to go ahead and sign up anyway, and then complete the detox on your own time. In other words, you’ll get the emails, webinars, and Q&A call recordings sent to you at the same time as everyone else, and then you can choose to complete the detox whenever you’re ready to commit to it fully – since you now have everything you need to do it!
Will there be another detox offered later?
Yes! Dr. Sara’s Detox Challenge typically runs twice per year. The next session dates will be announced in early 2014 (est. summer or fall 2014).
