Dieting can be disheartening for women, especially when they witness their male co-workers or partners shedding pounds with relative ease. The problem, says Harvard-educated physician-scientist and New York Times bestselling author Sara Gottfried, MD, is hormones. Yes, hormones. The solution cannot be found by counting calories or clocking miles on the treadmill, but by addressing the root cause of weight gain, fatigue, and other common issues that plague too many women.

Dr. Gottfried has spent her career demystifying hormones and helping patients improve their health more broadly with personalized medicine. In WOMEN, FOOD, AND HORMONES: A 4-Week Plan to Achieve Hormonal Balance, Lose Weight, and Feel Like Yourself Again (Mariner Books; September 21, 2021), she provides a revolutionary new plan that helps women balance their hormones so they can lose excess weight and feel better.

Highlights of Women, Food, and Hormones:

  • Exposes the keto paradox and identifies the reasons why so many women fail to lose weight on the classic ketogenic diet.
  • Shows you how to improve metabolic flexibility and flip your metabolic switch to transform your body.
  • Connects the dots between nutrition and hormones and teaches you the science behind hormone balancing by changing what, how, and when you eat.
  • Focuses on hormones that are rarely addressed in women’s health and fitness, namely growth hormone and testosterone.
  • Science-based protocols that help you get your metabolic hormones back on track and lose weight regardless of whether you are an omnivore, pescatarian, vegetarian or vegan

"Dr. Sara is the best interview I've ever had. I have interviewed a ton of people but she has IT. Tremendous!"

--JJVirgin, Author, The Virgin Diet

"Dr. Gottfried was described by our participants as 'a heavy hitter,' 'the real deal,' 'impressive,' and by one physician attendee, 'a babe.' Her grace creates a comfortable environment for learning, particularly since so much of her information is cutting edge and controversial in conventional medical circles. Her professionalism in keeping to her schedule, honoring questions, and supporting her colleagues is a dream for an event organizer. Her flexibility, both on and off the yoga mat, and her willingness to add elements, support the programming, embrace the experience, and share her personal stories made her an invaluable presenter AND partner. Her intelligence, research, and experience lends credibility to any conference, and creates value for any participant. The only complaint I have is that she wasn’t able to present more, and I will most certainly invite her back."

--Erin Kennedy, Marketing Manager, Copper Mountain

"Dr. Sara Gottfried MD is the most original voice in Women's Health today. Her brilliance, incisive ability to analyze cutting-edge medical research and apply it directly to issues, is unparalleled in today's hurry-up health care world."

--Susan Harrow, Author, Sell Yourself Without Selling Your Soul

"As an established radio host who has interviewed many guest experts, it was a thrill and a refreshing treat to interview such as class act as Dr. Sara. She really stood out above all other guests as having an innate ability to deliver amazing content in a way that really served my listeners, while being a shining example of integrity, authenticity and grace. Dr. Sara also stood out as a true authority on hormones--unlike any doctor I've encountered. She is one of the few guests that has a lifetime invitation to appear on my show and I would recommend her to any media personality that is craving having a guest that shines above all others."

--Jennifer Longmore, Founder of, Internationally acclaimed host of "Soul Purpose Central"

"It was wonderful doing fierce femme radio with Dr. Sara Gottfried on NPR's 51%, my Alive and Kicking segment, and my local KVYN morning show, Wednesday Wellness Wakeup, here in Napa, CA. She is not afraid to talk openly about the whole spectrum of issues surrounding women's health and wellness. Sara has connected the dots between hard science and the divine feminine. This sacred balance makes her an incredibly unique and amazing woman. Best of all, this gutsy integrative physician is fun, fun fun!"

--Dr. Sharon Ufberg

"Dr. Sara Gottfried is one of the best radio guests we've ever had in studio! She is extremely knowledgeable, incredibly personable and a great addition to our show. There's no one else with whom we want to talk HORMONES! We can't wait to have her back!"

--Steph and Lauren, The Lady Brain Show

"I have had the opportunity to hear Dr. Sara Gottfried MD speak and teach on several occasions. I am amazed at how effortlessly she presents cutting edge scientific research in the field of health and hormones and relates it to her audience in an easy to understand and practical way. Dr. Gottfried is a master at sharing her own struggles and successes to connect with her audience, presenting the latest in health related research to propose practical solutions based on sound science, and leaving the audience with valuable takeaways that they can apply immediately in their own lives. She engages her audience from the start and leaves them hungry for more!"
