Is there anything better than stumbling upon a recipe that’s both healthy and makes you drool over the thought of eating it?
Like Hippocrates said, food is medicine – and I’m all about eating your way to a rockin’ bod and balanced hormones.
The problem is, recipe blogs are a dime a dozen these days, and most people need a little guidance when they start making the kind of dietary shifts I recommend to my patients (like cutting out gluten, reducing sugar, etc.).
But there’s no need to stress. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite healthy recipe blogs that each have a slightly different approach. Dabble a little here, experiment a bit there and you’ll eventually become a clean eating pro.
Nom Nom Paleo.
Since cooking should be fun, you need to check out Michelle Tam’s Nom Nom Paleo blog. It’s where the boring salad gets a facelift and breakfast ideas go beyond just eggs, eggs and more eggs (if you eat paleo, you know what I’m talking about). The Healthy Apple.
Amie Valpone of The Healthy Apple was motivated to study nutrition after suffering years of extreme food allergies and health problems. The result? A huge collection of gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free and soy-free recipes that are about as “clean” as you can get. Looking to cut carbs? Kalyn’s Kitchen is a great resource for diabetics or those who want meals low on the glycemic-index scale (which is an indicator of how quickly or slowly a food will raise your blood sugar). The best part is that she has recipes sorted into categories, like meatless, vegan, gluten-free and Paleo, so you can pick and choose what works for your diet. www.kalynskitchen.com
Chocolate Covered Katie.
We can’t talk about food without talking about dessert. If you read my blog, you already know my stance on sugar (avoid it!), but Chocolate Covered Katie does a pretty decent job of incorporating raw and vegan ingredients to create healthier versions of dessert recipes (deep dish cookie pie, anyone?). If you’re new to paleo eating, Everyday Paleo is a helpful blog that not only has recipes, but also has tips and resources for living the “primal” lifestyle. The recipes cover all types of global cuisine, too, so you won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything. Oh She Glows.
Angela Liddon is well-known in the vegan community, but her recipes also cater to anyone looking for extremely clean, veggie-based meals. She’s great when it comes to using completely natural ingredients and also offering substitutions or alternatives for people with food allergies or sensitivities.
